Welcome to the Garrard County High School webpage. I want to personally thank you for allowing GCHS to be a part of your student’s educational journey. We strive for excellence and will work tirelessly to ensure EVERY student will be successful, EVERY day. 2019 The Perry Initiative: Inspiring Women to Be Leaders In Orthopedic Surgery and Engineering Recipient

This program is  available for young women in grades 10 and up interested in exploring careers in orthopaedics or engineering. In addition to six hands-on “mock surgical” exercises, participants will hear lectures from local women surgeons and engineers.

2019 EKU's SOLUTIONS! Science & Math Camp Participant

Genevieve McWilliams has been accepted into EKU’s SOLUTIONS! Science & Math Camp. The camp will be held from June 2 through June 7 at EKU’s campus in Richmond, KY. Students participate in a week full of fun and exciting activities that will help expand and confirm their interest in science and math. Students stay on the EKU campus in residence halls with their peers during the STEM focused week.

2019 Entrepreneurial Leadership Institute Participant

The Entrepreneurial Leadership Institute (ELI) helps rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors who want to start their own business build the skills they need to succeed at that goal.

Students develop a marketing plan, learn how to read financial statements, talk with state and regional business leaders and more in this one-week program held on the campus of The Center for Rural Development.

The winning team members of ELI’s Business Concept Competition also will receive college scholarship opportunities within the region.

The program is presented tuition-free to students within The Center’s 45-county primary service area.

2019 National Center for Women & Information Technology Award Winner

Genevieve McWilliams received a NCWIT Aspirations in Computing award live on KET TV. The National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) provides a long-term community for female technologists, from K-12 through higher education and beyond, encouraging persistence in computing through continuous engagement and ongoing encouragement at each pivotal stage of their educational and professional development. Thousands of technically inclined girls and women are offered opportunities to learn through computing-related activities, network at virtual and in-person meetups, receive visibility for technical achievements, and grow leadership and entrepreneurial skills by leading computing outreach programs in their local communities. This collective investment is making a considerable and sustainable impact on future technology and innovation by increasing women’s meaningful participation.


Genevieve was honored to receive an engraved award, several scholarship and internship opportunities, grant opportunities and entry to a peer-network of technical women in the NCWIT AiC Community. Genevieve was recognized during the live Kentucky Educational Television (KET) coverage of the Kentucky Department of Education’s Student Technology Leadership Program (STLP) held at Rump Arena on April 18th, 2019. 

FBLA State Competition

FBLA competed at the state level on March 10th at the Galt House in Louisville,KY .  All students qualified for the national competition in San Antonio, Texas later this summer. Kennedy Bruner was recognized for earning third place in the state for her Reporter's Quill.
