News from the District
Board Hires New Superintendent for 13-14 school year

Mr. Paul Mullins was announced this evening as the new superintendent of Garrard County Schools effective July 1. Mr. Mullins, a father of three, completed much of his education at Western Kentucky University and has been working in education for eighteen years. Over his time in education he has received many awards and recognitions for innovative thinking and high achievement in his previous posts.

We are pleased to welcome Mr. Mullins and his family to our community.  

LES @ Kentucky Depot Restaurant

Lancaster Elementary 5th graders had lunch at the Kentucky Depot Restaurant in Stanford on May 17th. This completed the K.I.C.K.S. program (Kids Into Courtesy Kindness and Sharing) sponsored by the Family Resource Center. This program teaches students phone etiquette, hygiene, internet safety, and dining etiquette. The students put their good manners to use on Friday at the Kentucky Depot.

Congrats to Adam Durham for signing with Campbellsville University today to play baseball. 
PLE Fifth Graders at Boone Tavern
 

Paint Lick Elementary fifth graders had lunch at Boone Tavern Monday. Berea College's Dr. Janice Blythe, did an etiquette lesson for the students prior to lunch. The lunch was a follow up activity to the K.I.C.K.S (Kids Into Courtesy, Kindness and Sharing) program sponsored by the Garrard County Family Resource Center. The school would like to thank the Family Resource Center, the Paint Lick Elementary PTO, Dr. Janice Blythe and Berea College for their support with this project.

5th Grade Transition Dinner at GMS
Garrard Middle School will be hosting a 5th grade Transition Dinner on Thursday May 16, 2013 from 6 PM - 7 PM.  The purpose of the Transition Dinner is to provide students and their parents/guardians with general information for preparing to enter Garrard Middle School as 6th graders in August 2013.

Please refer to the link below for a parent letter containing additional information.  Also, please complete the form at the bottom of the letter and return it to your respective Elementary School's office before Monday morning May 13th.  We look forward to meeting you on Thursday evening May 16th!

Kalem Grasham selected as new Principal @ GCHS
On behalf of the Site Base Council at Garrard County High School I would like to announce that we have completed the search for the open principal position. We had 12 highly qualified applicants and offered interviews to four. After interviewing three of them, one cancelled on us. We are very proud to announce that we have offered the job, and it was accepted by Kalem Grasham.

Kalem Grasham is a 1993 graduate of Lincoln County High School. Kalem graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education K-12 with a minor in Health Education K-12 from Eastern Kentucky University in the spring of 1999. Kalem graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in 2003 with a Masters of Arts in Educational Leadership. Kalem has spent his entire 14 year teaching career with the Garrard County school system. Kalem has taught Special Education, served as the district’s attendance/drop-out prevention coordinator, and health/PE teacher at Garrard County High School. Kalem served as the assistant principal & district athletic director at Garrard County High school for the past 7 ½ years. Kalem has served as the interim principal at Garrard County High School since January of this year. Kalem is an active member of KASA. Kalem is married to Jessica Grasham. They have 3 children: Cheyenne age 15, Jake age 6 and Kassidy age 3. Kalem is a deacon at his church at Junction City First Baptist.
