Comprehensive System of Instruction
The motto of Garrard County Schools is "Expect The Best!" while the motto of all Kentucky Department of Education, on behalf of all Kentucky schools is "Each and every student empowered and equipped to pursue a successful future". The Garrard County Schools Comprehensive System of Instruction (CSI) is a framework designed to ensure focus on making these two mottos a reality for every single student in the Garrard County School system. This framework will help unite all of the many efforts in this district so that every school, every program and every employee is working in unison to ensure that every student achieves his best and is proficient and prepared for success.
You may have heard districts call their plan a “Response-to-Intervention Plan”. Kentucky Department of Education calls the state plan “Kentucky Systems of Intervention.” Garrard County chose the name CSI because our goal is to have an instructional system that meets the needs of every learner: a Comprehensive System of Instruction (CSI).
The framework for effective instructional practices in Garrard County is Rutherford's Artisan Teacher. The 23 teaching themes constitutes a set of skills, some natural and some learned, that combine to produce optimal learning for students. Artisan Teachers are skilled in the craft of teaching. Garrard County Schools also recognizes that students must be actively engaged in order to learn. Across the district, teachers utilize Kagan Teaching Strategies to ensure students are actively engaged in learning.
All schools in Garrard County use Positive Behavior Instructional Supports (PBIS) as the framework for behavioral expectations and social support. Schoolwide expectations have been developed for each of the five schools and they are taught and retaught to our students. These schoolwide expectations are systematically reinforced so that students know the expectations and are able to follow them.
EXPECT THE BEST! -- academically and socially. We are Garrard County!
