Welcome!
Welcome to Traditions and Treasures: Kentucky Folklife. We are
pleased to announce that this site will soon be updated with a lot of interesting new
material. Most notably, we will be adding new oral histories of Kentuckians along
with photographs accompanying these histories. You can go to the main oral history
page by clicking here.
Previous visitors will notice that this site
has a different look to it. Please bear with us as we continue to change and add
content. This process will take aproximately several more weeks to complete.
In the meantime, feel fre to browse the site.
Site Purpose
This site is the outgrowth of a folklife project started between a 5th-grade class of
Meadowthorpe Elementary School (Lexington, KY) and a U.S. History class of Garrard County
High School. We would like to thank the Kentucky Historical Society for providing us
with a generous grant to get this project launched. You can find more information
about this project in the Project Outline Section.
Navigation
This site is designed to be as straightforward as possible. The "contents
bar" that appears on virtually every page will take you to your desired destination.
Please feel free to use the ideas on this website in your curriculum. Thank you. |

Kentucky Explorer Magazine is a great resource for reading about
Kentucky's colorful past, as well as viewing interesting old photos. |
Old photographs are an invaluable resource in learning
about the past. If you have old photographs depicting people and events of Kentucky,
then let us know. We would love to scan them and present them on this site for our
readers. |
