FBLA Fall Leadership Conference

FBLA

Many people love fall. The changing of the leaves, the nice cold breeze, and the smell of pumpkin spice fills the air. But for Garrard FBLA, fall brings the anticipation for the Fall Leadership Conference held at Eastern Kentucky University!

The Fall Leadership conference is a great trip for everyone in FBLA. It’s a perfect experience for members to gain knowledge of FBLA, meet other members from surrounding schools, and have tons of fun!

During the conference on October the 24th, students were broken into different learning groups and put into a classroom. Each class focused on a different aspect of FBLA. Activities ranged from leadership training, icebreakers, fundraising, community relations, and project based learning. In addition, chapter officers were trained on how their office functioned and specifically how to improve in their leadership position.

In addition, members were informed that this year the FBLA theme is “A World of Opportunity.” FBLA gives students the necessary skills in order to be successful with the opportunities given to them throughout their lives. Some opportunities Garrard FBLA has planned for their members this year are competitions, meetings, and FBLA outings this year and the Fall Leadership conference was a perfect way to kick off the year!

Read For The Record

GCHS Book Club

GCHS’s Book Club is aimed at becoming active in the local community and county, and proudly stand behind this. Recently, as a step towards this goal, they participated in “Read For The Record”on November 7th at both Paint Lick and Lancaster Elementary. This program is aimed at encouraging and inspiring people of any age to read and occurs across the nation. Beta Club members loved having the opportunity to read to preschoolers, 1st, and 2nd graders at both elementary schools. With the help of the librarians at PLE and LES, Kim Hacker and Paula Turner, Book Club members read the children’s book “Thank You, Omu”, a book about giving thanks, and helped students make thank-you cards to give to the people that meant the most to them. Members enjoyed having this opportunity greatly, and are so thankful to have had the opportunity.
