A new nonprofit organization dedicated to investing in the future of Garrard County Schools and the local community has officially launched.
The Friends of Garrard County Schools Educational Foundation (FGCS) was created with a mission to empower students, support educators, and strengthen the Garrard County community through partnerships, resources, and opportunities that directly benefit local schools.
Community members may have already seen representatives from the organization at our graduation ceremony, the Rural Heritage Festival, school events, and other activities throughout the county. The foundation is now formally introducing both its name and mission to the public through a newly released introductory campaign and video.
“In Garrard County, the heart of it is the school system,” said Dr. Kevin Stull, Garrard County Schools Superintendent and co-founder of the foundation. “Our families support our schools, our students attend our schools, and our schools are what make Garrard County what it is.”
Jen Krimm, Co-founder and Co-President, of Friends of Garrard County Schools, said, “Many of us know a teacher who spends her salary on her classroom or a bright student who just can’t afford college. That’s where Friends of Garrard County Schools comes in: it’s a new way for our community to support and invest in our schools, our kids, and Garrard County’s future.”
The Friends of Garrard County Schools Educational Foundation is designed to help bridge gaps and create additional opportunities for students and educators beyond traditional school funding. Foundation leaders shared that the organization is currently exploring several initiatives aimed at supporting Garrard County Schools, including student scholarships, teacher mini-grants, and classroom support, among other activities.
“Just like it takes a village to raise a child, it takes friends to support the school district and their hard work,” said Eve Proffitt, Co-President and Founding Benefactor of Friends of Garrard County Schools.
The FGCS educational foundation is led by a board consisting of community leaders, alumni, educators, and advocates who are committed to supporting local students and schools.
