Tonight we recognized the GMS Academic Team for all of their recent accomplishments!
The GMS Academic Team had over 60 members. They were the district champions overall and saw 17/18 testers qualify for regional competition. The team won every district championship except one. The problem solving and quick recall teams were also district champions. The GMS Team was also overall Regional Runners-up and had the regional champion in Arts (Emorie Martin), Science (Colin Gilbert), and ELA(Olivia Denny). 6 individuals and our problem-solving team advanced to State. Our 6th Grade team also placed as Runner Up and Emorie Martin placed 6th overall in the state on the 6th grade test.

Congratulations to Abagail Bailey, Natlie Clark, and Abigail Travis, Cooper Whitt (not pictured) on their acceptance to the Rogers Explorers Program! #WeAreGC

GMS would like to welcome our new assistant principal, Mr. Matthew Brown!
Mr. Brown has been teaching social studies for the past 15 years at Rockcastle County High School. In that time Mr. Brown taught Civics & Geography and US History.
Matthew is a graduate of Rockcastle County High School. He obtained his undergraduate degree in social studies w/teaching from Eastern Kentucky University. He then completed his Master’s and Rank 1 program as a teacher leader from Union College.
Along with teaching, Mr. Brown has maintained the role of coach for boys basketball at the middle/high school levels, high school girls basketball, football, and softball. While coaching softball Mr. Brown served as president of the Kentucky Softball Coaches Association for two years and is a two time 12th region coach of the year.
Matthew and his wife Tara have been married for 14 years and have an 8 year old son named Cooper. Mr. Brown loves his family; he and his wife enjoy being able to watch their son play football, basketball, baseball, and swim.
Mr. Brown is excited to start his new role as assistant principal and is looking forward to working with the staff and students of GMS. He will strive to be a valuable asset and an instrumental resource in the education of the youth of Garrard County.
