Teacher of the Year

Garrard County Schools proudly celebrated its annual Whitaker Bank Teacher of the Year and Retirement Celebration Banquet last week, recognizing outstanding educators and staff members whose dedication has made a lasting impact across the district.

The evening brought together teachers, administrators, staff members, family, and community supporters to honor excellence in education and celebrate years of service devoted to students and schools throughout Garrard County.

Garrard County High School Culinary Arts students played an important role in the evening, preparing and serving the meal and desserts for guests in attendance. The Garrard County Jazz Band, under the direction of Mr. Noel Green, provided entertainment for the evening. Garrard County Schools extends its sincere appreciation to both groups for helping make the celebration a great night.

This year’s Teacher of the Year recipients were recognized for their commitment to student success, positive influence within their schools, and passion for education:

Mrs. Betsy Carrier- Camp Dick Robinson

Betsy Carrier was recognized as Camp Dick Robinson’s Teacher of the Year for her dedication, consistency, and high expectations for student success. Staff members described Carrier as “all business” in the classroom, creating an environment where students understand the importance of learning and are held to a standard of excellence wrapped in support. Colleagues also noted her structured, systematic approach to instruction and her ability to equip students with the strategies and tools needed to become strong readers, writers, and critical thinkers, while also serving as a valuable mentor to fellow staff members.

Mrs. Tiffany Jones- Lancaster Elementary School

Tiffany Jones was honored as Lancaster Elementary School’s Teacher of the Year for the care, compassion, and dedication she shows to students and staff each day. Staff members described Jones as someone who consistently goes above and beyond, creates a welcoming environment for others, and works to ensure every student receives the support they need. Colleagues also praised her willingness to collaborate, advocate for students, and bring positivity to the school community.

Mrs. Kathy Johnson- Paint Lick Elementary School

Kathy Johnson was recognized as Paint Lick Elementary School’s Teacher of the Year for her patience, positivity, and genuine love for each child she teaches. Staff members described Johnson as someone who ensures every student who enters her classroom finds a way to be successful, going beyond academics to meet students where they are and support a wide range of needs. Colleagues also highlighted her ability to build confidence, encourage curiosity, and create an environment where students feel capable and celebrated, with one noting her lasting impact as both an educator and a mentor to those who work alongside her.

Ms. Diania Poynter- Garrard Middle School

Diania Poynter was recognized as Garrard Middle School’s Teacher of the Year for her dedication, selflessness, and innovative approach in the classroom. Staff members described Poynter as someone who creates a learning environment where all students feel seen and valued, while also understanding and responding to the challenges students may be facing outside of school. Colleagues noted her willingness to go above and beyond each day, her commitment to pushing students to do their best, and her positive attitude in taking on additional responsibilities, including teaching both math and science at the 8th grade level.

Ms. Ashley Meadows- Garrard County High School

Ashley Meadows was recognized as Garrard County High School’s Teacher of the Year for her loyalty, passion, and leadership both in the classroom and across the school community. Staff members described Meadows as a leader and mentor who has served Garrard County Schools in multiple roles over the years, consistently making a positive impact on students and colleagues. Colleagues also highlighted her dedication to empowering students, her commitment to fostering Golden Lion pride, and the strong relationships she builds as both an educator and coach, noting her lasting influence as a role model within the district.

Each educator was celebrated during the banquet with video tributes highlighting the impact they have made within their classrooms and school communities, as well as reflections shared by colleagues and building principals. From building strong relationships with students to creating engaging learning environments and serving as leaders among their peers, each Teacher of the Year recipient represents the dedication and excellence found throughout Garrard County Schools.

The district also recognized several employees who are retiring after years of service to Garrard County Schools. Together, these retirees have dedicated decades of their lives to supporting students, families, staff, and the community.

Retirees

Throughout the evening, district leaders reflected on the incredible impact these individuals have had on generations of students and families in Garrard County. Whether through teaching, transportation, leadership, or support roles, each retiree has helped shape the success and culture of the district.

Garrard County Schools extends its sincere appreciation to Whitaker Bank for its continued partnership and support in helping recognize the educators and staff members who make a difference each day.
