Melvena is the Food Service Secretary and Menu Planner for our district. Her role as Secretary is to provide support to the Food Service Director and all Managers. In her role as Menu Planner, she ensures that the menu served is compliant, cost effective, and meets the nutritional needs of our students. While she brings 8 years of Food Service experience and many years of clerical expertise to her position, much of her extended knowledge of Food Service has been obtained since arriving in our district. This can be attributed to her willingness to stay in a constant state of learning and training in order to always provide the highest level of support. Melvena has a unique passion for school nutrition. Not only has she earned a Level 4 Certificate in School Nutrition, but she continues to educate herself daily on proper meal crediting and the regulations that apply to Child Nutrition. She is in continuous communication with each of our kitchens to ensure that the proper food and supply items get ordered weekly. She is also greatly involved with the repair and replacement of our kitchen equipment. Further, she spends a considerable amount of time tracking our USDA Commodity Entitlements and making sure our managers are aware of when a delivery drops at the warehouse and is available to order. Her invaluable support as Food Service Secretary enables our nutrition staff to make sure that our students are properly nourished and ready to learn. Her role as Menu Planner provides the nutritional support that our students need to grow, develop, and have academic success. This makes Melvena Price a great choice for November Support Staff Person of the Month.
