Nominations for SBDM Minority Representative [Needed]
SBDM We were notified by the State Department of Education that our school minority enrollment is now at or above 8%. When a school's minority enrollment reaches 8% or higher, it is required by law to have minority representation on the SBDM council.
Therefore, our school must host a special election for the purpose of electing one minority parent and one minority teacher representative. A minority parent is defined as: “American Indian; Alaskan native; African American; Hispanic, including persons of Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, and Central South American origins; Pacific Islander; or other ethnic group underrepresented in the school” [KRS 160.345(1)(a)]
The SBDM Council is the decision-making body for our school. The council meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 3:15 pm. Most meetings last approximately an hour. The main purpose of the SBDM council is to improve student learning. School councils have the responsibility to set school policy and make decisions in the areas specified by the law; to provide an environment to enhance student achievement; and to help the school meet the goals established by Kentucky's education reform laws.
If you are a minority parent, and would be interested in running for the open spot on the council, please call the school (859) 792-6136 to submit your nomination by Thursday, May 21st @3:00.
**Provided we have candidates, we will hold an election on Friday, May 22nd from 7:30 AM until 3:00 PM.
