GCS Students and Families: On December 16, 2021, the Garrard County School Board updated the district COVID-19 plan. The full plan is available for review on the district's website. The primary change to the plan was to allow parents, students, and staff the ability to decide if they would wear a mask. As we return to classes, parents, students, and staff can opt to wear a mask or not to wear a mask. This option does not extend to buses or other district transportation. A federal mandate remains in place for masking on buses and other district transportation. Please note there are no changes to other protocols or expectations. Parents & guardians should continue to assess students prior to sending or bringing them to school. Students who are sick should remain home. Students who have been tested for COVID-19 and are awaiting a result should not attend school until a negative result has been received. We hope everyone has enjoyed the break! Just a reminder, tomorrow January 3rd 2022 will be a Staff Day- no students. We will see all of our students on Tuesday!
HUGE thank you to Whitaker Bank for providing all of our elementary students with school t-shirts!
LES held their annual Science Fair the week of December 6th. Media Specialist Kim Hacker coordinated the event. We want to thank our judges Mr. Stull, Mr. Bolin, Ms. Arnold and Mr. Srsic. We had over 200 boards created and many wonderful entries! Thank you to all for a job well done!
Friendly Reminder! NO School for students November 24th-26th.
Mrs. Viele, along with her 3rd grade son Marcus, presented her fossils to the 3rd grade class as part of their Science class. Mrs. Viele travels to South Dakota during the summer to work with a group on fossil digs. On other breaks, you will find her with her family in Florida dredging the waters for fossils. She has dedicated an entire room of her home to her fossil collection, and even shares them and her experiences with her 1st grade class and her LES club.
Please share this reminder to our students and families! We are so encouraged to see the amount of items already donated at each school to benefit the Garrard Food Pantry! If you have not yet donated and would like to, there is still time! Each school has a designated employee and room number where items can be collected. We will be collecting items until this Friday, November 19th. Thank you for supporting our community!
The staff members of GCS are thankful and grateful for all of our students and families that make our school district great!

Hi! I am Tracie Bottoms, Lancaster Elementary Principal. I am in my 15th year at Lancaster Elementary and every year this school continues to strive to be the best. I have so many wonderful memories of the students that have passed through these halls, and I am blessed to be leading a wonderful group of children and staff. Lancaster Elementary teachers work hard every day to ensure our students are learning. This year has been extra challenging, but we are stepping up to that challenge! Virtual Learning is a means of learning, but we want to spend the time with the students doing hands on lessons, interacting in person with the students each day and forming lasting relationships.
Garrard County School System serves approximately 2500 students in Pre-K through twelfth grade. The three elementary schools are high-performing institutions preparing our students in grades Pre-K through five to enter middle school with strong basic skills and a broad knowledge of the state and national standards in core academic areas.
